Overview

Ligilactobacillus salivarius (L. salivarius) is a probiotic bacteria that is available over the counter as a supplement. It is commonly used to improve gut and mouth health, but its benefits are not well defined. Common side effects include gas and an upset stomach. Serious side effects are rare, but may include infections in some people who are at high risk of infections. Before taking L. salivarius, make sure to tell your health care provider about any health conditions you have or medicines you are taking.
