Overview

Hyacinth bean (Lablab purpureus) is a climbing plant that produces seeds (beans). It is eaten as food and also used as medicine.

Hyacinth bean contains proteins and starches. Chemicals in the bean might have antidiabetic effects and also help protect the liver.

People sometimes use hyacinth bean for diarrhea, insomnia, and many other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses.
