Alpha-gpc

OTHER NAME(S): alpha-GPC (a-GPC), choline alphoscerate, L-alpha-GPC, L-alpha-glycerylphosphorylcholine (L-alpha-GPC)

Overview

Alpha-glycerylphosphorylcholine (alpha-GPC), which is also known as choline alphoscerate, is a chemical that contains large amounts of choline. It is used for dementia and to improve memory or thinking skills, but its benefits are not well defined. Common side effects may include constipation, nausea, or an upset stomach. Taking alpha-GPC for a long time may increase the risk of stroke in some people. Before taking alpha-GPC, make sure to tell your health care provider about any health conditions you have or medicines you are taking.
