Overview

Lactase is used to help with symptoms of lactose intolerance. It is available over the counter as a dietary supplement in many forms, including as a liquid, tablet, chewable tablet, and capsule. Lactase works by breaking down lactose, which is the sugar in dairy products that causes the symptoms of lactose intolerance. Lactase is usually well tolerated. Before taking lactase, tell your health care provider about all of your health conditions and any medicines or supplements you may be using.
